Hell Hath Frozen Over As Whaley Jr Wins A Plate Race!!!

Yes folks, you have read that right! Jim Whaley Jr has won a restrictor plate race! Whaley has a notorious history for not finishing restrictor plate races other than on a hauler. But tonight, that was not the case. First off, let's send a shout-out to Jeff Dotson in his Rain-X Advanced Auto Parts Chevy, Charles Smith in his Spectracide Chevy, and past Champion Clifton Cockrell in his Amoco Fuels Chevy, along with Michael Palmer in the Caterpillar Chevy, on their 1st appearances of the season! The other big take-away here, is this Super Speedway race went caution free! A complete 80 laps ran totally under green. This is a testament to the skill of these drivers! So kudos to everyone that was in attendance! You guys did an AMAZING job!

The race was pretty uneventful as green flag pitstops broke the field up into little packs. The biggest pack was a 5 car train that ran single file until 10 to go. For 7 laps Clifton Cockrell in the #29 would keep popping outside with the #33 of Mark Koschik in tow. Brent Day in the #42 Stanford Cardinals Chevrolet would just stay in touch to be able to make a quick move either way when needed. With a lap and a half to go Whaley would go high in turn 3 to catch Cockrell and Koschik to use the high line to pass race leader Justin Anderson. But 1 lap later it was on! Coming out of turn 3 Koschik would get into Cockrell and turn him into Day collecting all 3. This left Whaley on the outside and Anderson low in a drag race to the line. But just as they were coming to the line Anderson's car would start sputtering as it was running out of gas, essentially handing it to Whaley. The race took 1 hour and 6 minutes to complete. Justin Anderson would lead 42 of the 80 laps. Anderson would also grab the pole with a time of 48.008. Congratulations to Jim Whaley Jr on his win at Daytona!!!
