Justin Anderson Gets 2nd Win Of Season In the Fruit Loops 80!!!!!!

The Sure Fire Racing League pulled in to Long Pond, PA this week for the running of the Fruit Loops 80 at the infamous Pocono Raceway. With some drivers hating this track and others looking forward to the challenge that this 2.5 mile tri-oval brings, it was sure to be an exciting race. It was names that we have all become familiar with like, Dennis Brasfield, who took the pole once again with a fast time of 54.452. With only four cautions during this 80 lap race, it was Justin Anderson who crossed the finish line first.

Your pole sitter, #38 Dennis Brasfield and #77 Justin Anderson would line up in the front row and follow the pace car around till the green flag was waving in the air. It was Anderson who had a better start than Brasfield and was out in front as they turned into Turn 1 and Anderson continued to lead 122 other drivers across the finish line to complete lap 1.

Lap 4 sees the young gun, #13 Carson Poe lose control of his car coming out of Turn 1. Trying to gain control of his car, Poe’s car snaps to the right, back onto the track and in the path of the #46 Jim Whaley Jr., causing extensive damage to both cars. Since this incident was in the back of the field and no other cars were near, the caution flag did not come out. The caution did come out for the first time of the day on Lap 45 as the #38 Dennis Brasfield, got on the gas a little soon coming out of Turn 3, causing him to fishtail and eventually spinning his car around on the front stretch.

The green flag flies in the air on Lap 51 for the restart, but the caution comes out immediately for an incident in Turn 1. With everyone trying to get position on this restart, the #071 Dean Viney racing the #85 Trevor Malone into Turn 1 and racing even harder coming out, momentum carrying these cars towards the wall, the #38 Brasfield wanted to make it three-wide and tried to put his 8-foot wide Chevy into a 7-foot wide hole that was closing rapidly. With basic physics coming in to play, this move just wasn’t going to have a good ending and it was Dean Viney who paid the price. As Brasfield got into Viney’s right rear quarter panel, this sent Viney into the wall ending his day, but not before collecting and putting an end to the #46 of Jim Whaley Jr. who was already heavily damaged from an earlier incident on Lap 4.

The yellow flag flies for the third time on Lap 73 as Brasfield one again comes out of Turn 3, loses control, fishtailing and spinning on the front stretch, slowing down the field. This caution sets up a very interesting strategy as the green flag is going to come out on Lap 79 causing just a two-lap shootout for the drivers of this Fruit Loop sponsored race at Pocono.

Every fan in the grandstands are on their feet expecting one hell of a two-lap race and they weren’t to be disappointed. The green flag drops and all hell breaks loose. Up front in Row 1, your leader, #77 Justin Anderson lurches forward as the green flag comes out, 2nd place runner, #33 Mark Koschik, tries to go but spins his tires in front of the entire field. Giving the front stretch wall a good old fashion bitch slap, Koschik glances off the wall slowing him enough to let 3rd place Thomas Christ, 4th place Mark Arthur, who was making his debut with Sure Fire and 5th place Trevor Malone to all get by him. Just behind them, the #911 Cliff Cockrell, bolts to the outside of #27 Terry Walters to get position, making it almost 3-wide putting himself in the middle of Walters and Brasfield who was on the outside. The #51 Paul Cohen gets stuck on the outside behind Koschik and has nowhere to go but on the brakes.

Cockrell and Brasfield pass Koschik cleanly and with plenty of room for some good racing. Unfortunately, this was not going to happen as Brasfield ran into the left rear bumper of the #12 of Mark Arthur, ushering him across the track where the #27 Terry Walters with absolutely nowhere to go crushed the left front of Arthur’s brand new, snow white Chevy, causing extensive damage to Walters’ Ford Fusion, sliding Arthur sideways down the track until the #12’s tires took hold and sent him nose first into the inside wall, blowing the motor, forcing him to be towed to the garage. Mark Arthur had an impressive run with the Sure Fire for his first time running with our league, but an unfortunate DNF finish for Mark Arthur’s debut. All others who were involved had to nurse their mighty machines around the track for two laps under caution as this is how the Fruit Loop 80 would finish…under caution.

Sure Fire Racing League officials immediately called Brasfield, his crew chief and car owner to the hauler to discuss Brasfield’s multiple incident involvement within this race.

Congratulations to Justin Anderson on another Sure Fire Racing League win who was followed by 2nd place finisher, Thomas Christ. #85 Trevor Malone got 3rd, 4th place goes to the #911 Cliff Cockrell and the #27 Terry Walters rounds out the top 5.

After reviewing the replay of this Pocono race along with other league Cup races, it is the decision of the Sure Fire Racing League admins, that the #38 Dennis Brasfield be penalized for over-aggressive driving. We at Sure Fire do not condone this type of driving from anyone, admins included. So let me make this rule perfectly clear to everyone. Over-aggressive driving WILL NOT be tolerated. If the admins find that a driver is being over-aggressive, penalties will be accessed and will range from warnings, suspensions and up to removal from the league.
