Allen Scores 2nd Career Sure Fire Racing League Modified Series Victory!!!

The Sure Fire Racing League SK modified division rolled into the beautiful Martinsville Speedway Friday night for the "Marty Mayhem 100". Jon Sorensen led practice as the only driver to crack the 19 second barrier with a time of 19.975 followed closely by TJ Christ with a 20.113 time laid down late in the session. 2 laps of qualifying were next on the ticket and while Sorensen was the favorite to claim the pole for the event his time of 20.112 was bested by the #38 of Dennis Brasfield with a 20.107 lap. With the field now set it was time to go to work and claim the prestigious "Grandfather" clock.

Brasfield led the field to the green flag and jumped out to an early lead with the #55 of Christ in his tire tracks. The first of 2 cautions would fly on lap 26 when the machine of Terry Walters popped the wall and left Sorensen no place to go except into the back of the #27 ending his night. Sorensen would soldier on for a few more circuits before calling it a night. All cars came to pit road under this caution for routine service and the lap 32 restart would see the #38 still in command.

Lap 39 would see the worst incident of the night as contact on the back straight between the #13 of Carson Poe and Jay Harned sent the #44 onto his roof and sliding into the turn 3 wall where he remained upside down. Harned was done for the night and his team faces a long trip back to the shop in Buffalo, NY for repairs.

During this caution a key strategy played out as the #59 of Michael Allen decided to hit pit road for new rubber as the rest of the field opted to stay out. Allen would line up 4th on the lap 45 restart and quickly utilize the fresh tires to dispense of the #22 of Eric Nordhoff with a power move on the restart. He quickly secured the 2nd position when Christ tried a move on the outside of Brasfield but slipped out of turn 4 and left the door open. Allen would hound the #38 for several laps before finally muscling his way under Brasfield on lap 60 and would never look back. Christ was also able to find his way around Brasfield and would give chase but the pit strategy Allen employed would prove too much to overcome as he cruised to his second victory of the season and second of his career. Christ, Brasfield, Nordhoff and Poe would round out the top 5.

Congrats to Michael Allen on winning the Marty Mayhem 100
