Kenseth's Revenge Turns Into A Sweet Victory For Brasfield!!

Round and round for 150 laps is what 18 Sure Fire Racing League drivers were doing on Sunday at the Martinsville Speedway. Drivers weren’t sure what to expect, but general consensus around the garage area, was that this race was going to have a record high number of caution laps. But just as big of a surprise as the Arizona Cardinals beating the Green Bay Packers, Martinsville only saw a total of seven caution flags. Congratulations go out to the #38 of Dennis Brasfield as he grabbed the first place spot winning the Kenseth’s Revenge 150.

The front row consisted of the #77 Justin Anderson and your pole sitter, Dennis Brasfield, who had a fast time of 19.641. The green flag dropped and it was the #77 Justin Anderson who took the lead from the outside lane leading the boys around to cross the start/finish line to complete Lap 1. Anderson’s lead was short lived as Brasfield was not content in running in the second position, and fought back to take that first place spot.

Lap 7 is when the first caution came out when the #912 Vernon Marghein and the #57 James Tyler, ever so slightly got into each other, but it was just enough to disrupt Tyler’s forward motion and sent him around in Turn 4 sending him nose first into the inside wall. Just nine laps into this green flag run. On Lap 16, it’s the #77 Justin Anderson driving in hard and deep into Turn 3 trying to pass the #85 Trevor Malone, that brings out the caution. But Anderson did not have enough of his nose in, and when Malone came down racing his line, he had no idea that Anderson was there, and it was Malone who was sent spinning around and shot up the track, collecting the #48 Mark McFadden and the #33 Mark Koschik,

On Lap 23, it was #55 Thomas Christ driving into the rear of the #72 John Estes in Turn 4 sending Estes into a spin, but with nowhere to go, the #48 rear ended Christ causing damage to both cars. Lap 39 sees the caution yet again coming from an altercation out of Turn 4. This time as the #85 Trevor Malone and the #911 Cliff Cockrell are battling hard for position, the #38 Dennis Brasfield jumps on the gas and smashes into the rear of the #85 of Malone.

It’s nearly 40 laps of green flag racing before the caution flag makes its appearance once again. This time it is the #57 James Tyler who self-spins out of Turn 2, squarely putting his nose hard into the inside wall. As Tyler tries to baby his machine around and onto pit road, he is nearing his pit stall when the motor lets loose and Tyler’s day is finished. As the drivers restart on Lap 82, it is the #27 Terry Walters going in to Turn 1 and gets into the back of the #071 Dean Viney, turning him sideways and causing some heavy cosmetic damage. Viney’s quick responses enabled him to save his machine from spinning out. Walters having bounced off of Viney’s car, moved up and connected with the #65 Kyle Ammon, causing even more cosmetic damage. Neither one of these instances brought out the caution flag as all drivers were able to keep going and not lose any positions.

Lap 128 brings out the sixth caution as #27 Terry Walters spins his machine and loops it into the outside wall doing some considerable damage. No one else was involved, and Walters was able to fill the entire track with smoke before being able to pit his Ford Fusion. The #65 Kyle Ammon and the race leader, #38 Dennis Brasfield, were both able to squeeze by Walters getting past him, but not before each driver brushed up against the wall. Ammon was glad to see this caution come out as he was about to be passed and put a lap down by the leader, Brasfield.

In the final laps, the #49 Jon Sorensen running in the 4th place spot, was giving it everything that he had to get up to the #912 Vernon Margheim to take away that 3rd spot from him. On Lap 48, Sorensen drives it in too deep and gets into the back of Margheim, who is able to keep going and it is Sorensen who spins his machine around facing oncoming traffic and causing the race to finish under yellow.

Congrats go to Dennis Brasfield for his first place finish in the Kenseth’s Revenge 150, followed by the #911 Cliff Cockrell. Third place went to the #912 Vernon Margheim, a hard fought fourth place finish goes to #77 Justin Anderson and fifth place went to #071 Dean Viney.

Next Sunday the Sure Fire Racing League is in Long Pond, PA at the 2.5 mile, Pocono Raceway.
