Where In The Hell Did Kevin J. Myers Come From?

Kevin Myers and his crew were on their way home from a late week practice session, driving thru Braselton, Georgia when they saw the lights shining on the Lanier National Speedway. Loving the thrill of racing, the Myers team unloaded the car and all are glad they did as the #67 Kevin Myers won Heat #2 and the Feature of the Sure Fire Saturday Night Showdown.

This week, it was the #46 of Jim Whaley Jr. who took fast time. As Nick Zautner was walking back to his hauler, he was overheard saying that the only reason that Whaley got fast time was because he (Zautner), was late and couldn't qualify.

For the dash, it was the #4 Shane Gross winning. The #27 Terry Walters brought home the checkered flag for the first Heat and the second Heat was won by the #67 Kevin Myers.

The 100-lap Feature race went with ten drivers and only one caution. With the #27 of Terry Walters on the pole and the #1 of Robert Underwood on the outside making up Row 1, it was a fierce battle for position for several laps. Not only with these two drivers, but every driver who took the green flag was right there ready to pounce. But none other more ready to pounce than the #85 of Trevor Malone who multiple times would look and start to stick his nose between Walters and Underwood to make it three-wide. Malone, being the veteran driver that he is, thought better of it each time and decided to wait for a more opportune time.

Fans in the grandstands, right there on the front stretch saw some congestion on Lap 8, as the #46 Jim Whaley Jr had to check up to avoid getting into the back of #071 Dean Viney. As Whaley was successful in not hitting Viney, this caused the #66 Nick Zautner, to check up hard to avoid hitting Whaley, but #67 Kevin Myers had already been on the gas and before he could get to his brakes, he got into the rear of Zautner. Nick Zautner was able to survive the little "love tap".

With the combination of getting into Zautner and hitting his brakes hard, it sent Myers into a skid and the #4 of Shane Gross was already there and nailed Myers hard spinning both cars out of control. Surprisingly, this did not bring out a caution as both cars were able to get up and running again.

The caution flag did come out once and only once and that was on Lap 28 as the #46 Jim Whaley Jr. coming out of Turn 2, decided to "move" the #27 Terry Walters out of his way so he could take the lead. Hitting the #27 in the turn, sent Walters into a spin, but luckily not hitting anyone or anything. With the caution flag out, Walters had to pit and replace his flat-spotted tires and while doing so went a lap down which he could not recover from.

The rest of the race had drivers battling for all positions, but it was the #67 Kevin J. Myers who crossed the finish line first. Nick Zautner in the #66 finished second and the #55 Thomas Christ came home in third. Fourth place went to the #46 Jim Whaley Jr. and #071 Dean Viney closed out the top 5.

Sure Fire's, Saturday Night Showdown will be taking some time off for the holidays and will return on January 9, 2016. Keep an eye on our page on Facebook to find out where the series will be as this admin has no clue as RPM is still down and I'm not able to access the schedule.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a very safe Happy New Year and looking forward to seeing all of you on the track in the new year.
