Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Super Sunday and Sure Fire Racing together in California at the Auto Club Speedway for the SKULLCANDY 150! The opening race for Sure Fire's Super Sunday series brought 20 drivers to the track, but it was the #38 of Dennis "DJ" Brasfield who took the pole with a fast qualifying time of 39.727. Congratulations DJ on your pole position.
The green flag drops and it was DJ who led the first lap of this 150 lap race, but not without being challenged by the #77 of Justin Anderson. Brasfield took a commanding lead over the field in the first eight laps before the yellow flag was waving in the air as the #56 Chuck Shaw Jr. lost it in Turn 2 and smacked the wall hard.
Lap 13 sees the caution flag as the #1 Robert Underwood loses control coming out of Turn 2, over corrects and shoots back out onto the track and hitting the outside wall head-on. As Underwood bounces off the wall, he collected the #8 of Josh Lambert who T-boned Underwood's driver's door, destroying both cars. Lap 18 brings out the green flag, but only for one lap, as the #77 Justin Anderson and the #66 of Nick Zautner come together just out of Turn 2. These two drivers were able to keep their machines off the track surface so no other cars were involved. Both drivers were able to continue their night of racing.
After almost a 90-lap green flag run and a couple rounds of pit stops, Turn 2 rears it's ugly head and brings out the caution once again as your race leader, #89 Matt Quick , self spins. It is believed that on Lap 116, the #101 of David Gainforth, had a tire go flat which sent him careening into the #38 of Brasfield. This backstretch accident collected four other cars dampening any hopes for a good finish. Involved, was the #99 Michael Palmer, #071 Dean Viney, #77 Justin Anderson and the #56 of Chuck Shaw Jr.
The final 34 laps went caution free and it was the #55 of Thomas "TJ" Christ who crossed the finish line first with over a 3-second lead over 2nd place finisher, #46 Jim Whaley Jr. The #52 of Brent Leigh comes in 3rd, followed by the #92 of Michael Campbell in 4th and #72 John Estes rounds out the top 5.
Drivers, haulers, motor homes, vendors and fans are all headed to sunny Arizona for the Phoenix International Raceway where the Sure Fire Super Sunday series roars to life for the Hamburglar 125,
