Theis Shows Tenacity To Take Phoenix!!
Round 4 of the Sure Fire Racing Cup Series was at Phoenix for the Quicken Loans 125. 19 Drivers took the green but wasn’t long till the first caution flew. The 09 of Patrick Tuggles was real loose out of three and collected the 56 of Chuck Shaw Jr and the 39 of Shawn Hughes. Up ahead of them the 48 of Bruce Ackermann also self-spun but cleared the other cars.
Caution 2 out on lap 8 as the 73 of Justin Anderson and the 14 of Joseph Theis get together in the dogleg when the 32 of Hugo Linder checked up but the 12 of Kyle Fitzpatrick turns the 32 sending him to the outside wall.
Caution 3 waves as the 1 of Robert Underwood self-spins out of three and bumping the inside wall.
Caution 4 flies as the 77 of Jon Loreto self-spins out of turn three and hitting the inside wall.
Long green flag run and some made green flag stops on pit road but on lap 96 caution out for the 3 of Cody Griffin and the 14 of Joseph Theis were hard racing when out of turn three Cody pushed a little too much taping the 14 sending them around.
Caution 6 out at lap 107 as the 3 of Cody Griffin trying his best to get around the 73 of Justin Anderson but they bump sending Justin to the outside wall in turn one.
More hard racing as the last caution out on lap 113 for the 3 of Cody Griffin and the 45 of Carl Shedd not giving an inch as Carl goes around in turn one.
8 lap shoot out to the finish as Joseph Theis sets his sights on the win and he crosses the line on lap 125 to take his second win of the season. DJ Brasfield grabs 2nd with Robert Underwood taking 3rd. Kevin Sockow crosses the line 4th and Matthew Quick rounds out the top 5.
Cody Griffin was disqualified for rough driving.
Due to retaliation on another driver at the conclusion of the race, Carl Shedd was disqualified.
